Gerník at the Turn of the Century

Story

Around the beginning of the twentieth century, Gerník was already home to generations of families whose lives were closely connected to the village and the surrounding landscape.

Daily life was shaped by work, agriculture, family, faith and cooperation between neighbours. Knowledge and skills were passed from one generation to another, while the Czech language remained an important part of family and community life.

The village was not isolated from the changes taking place around it, but many local customs and traditions continued to provide a strong sense of continuity.

Photographs, family records and personal memories from this period can help us understand not only how Gerník looked, but also how its inhabitants experienced everyday life.
