Foundation of Gerník

In 1827, a new chapter began in the mountains of the Banat. Czech settlers established the community that would become known as Gerník.

The first years were shaped by difficult conditions, hard work and the need to build a new life far from the places the settlers had previously called home. Houses, paths and farmland gradually transformed the landscape, while family and community ties became essential to everyday life.

Over the following generations, Gerník developed its own distinctive character. Czech language, traditions and memories were passed from parents to children and became part of the identity of the village.

The year 1827 therefore represents more than a date in the history of Gerník. It marks the beginning of a community whose story continues two centuries later.
